Food, Lifestyles, and Customs


The Olmec consumed a variety of sustanence. Their staple diet consisted mainly of corn and other crops. They supplemented this with a variety of fish and game from the surrounding natural territories.

The Olmec people lived a simple life. Their society was based on religion and people met at religious centers. The elite lived off of the lesser peoples' produce and instead of taking care of their land the elite carried out religious ceremonies centered in the towns. The elite also made the large stone heads and other art products and took care of inter-city trade.
